<h2>What Voters Need to Know:</h2>Updated: April 8th, 2026 Before anything else, likely Democratic primary voters (particularly Latinas, and older Democrats) need to read, see, and see while on the go that Randy Villegas is an educator, auto shop owner and son of Mexican immigrants raised in Bakersfield. Growing up, his family worked hard but still needed Medicaid and food stamps to make ends meet. Randy knows that families like his are hurting because politicians in both parties are corrupt: taking money from the same corporations that are stripping away access to healthcare and driving up costs. This district deserves someone who understands the struggle, and because of that Randy will FOCUS on making life more affordable for Valley families and FIGHT the corruption of Donald Trump and the political establishment. Once voters learn about Randy’s background and bio, likely Democratic primary voters across the district, need to read, see and see on the go, a clear contrast between the candidates, which reinforces Villegas as the candidate who will fight FOR working families — instead of powerful corporate interests. It is especially important that voters throughout the district read about these contrasts. Health Care: Jasmeet Bains has taken over $800,000 from Big Pharma and other healthcare companies. She failed to show up to vote to extend healthcare coverage and voted against giving the state more oversight over private equity takeovers of health facilities and providers. Randy Villegas grew up on Medicaid and knows what it’s like when your family is working hard but struggling to afford health care. He’ll fight to roll back Trump’s cuts and make care more affordable through Medicare for All—putting patients over corporations. Corporate Polluters: Randy Villegas grew up in Bakersfield and watched as Central Valley families face some of the highest rates of asthma and cancer in the country, driven in part by pollution in our air and water. He will hold corporate polluters accountable to keep our communities safe and healthy. Jasmeet Bains has taken thousands of dollars from pesticide and chemical companies and refuses to vote to regulate dangerous pesticides and toxic chemicals—siding with the industries behind toxic chemicals that are making families sick.More to come closer to the election.

We must fix our broken systemYou’ve seen the videos. Unidentified masked men kidnapping innocent mothers selling fruit, or ripping children away from their parents. The current policies of blanket detention and deportation are unconstitutional and un-American. As the son of immigrants from Mexico, this is personal to me. We need a working system that protects our communities while providing a path to citizenship so our undocumented neighbors, friends and coworkers aren’t forced to live in the shadows. Bring home our deported veteransTrump and Valadao have overseen an administration where veterans, who have bravely served and made immense sacrifices for our country, have been deported. The cruelest part about this betrayal is that they are still entitled to a military funeral, so the only way many of them can come back home is in a casket. I will act with urgency to bring our veterans home, and fight for an immigration system that recognizes the dignity of everyone who has bravely served our country. Address the Root CauseMigration doesn’t come out of nowhere. It starts in parts of the world that are unstable, leading workers and families to seek refuge elsewhere. Instead of destabilizing regions overseas and then panicking when the problem shows up at our doorstep, we must work in alliance with other countries to address poverty and political instability that lead migrants to flee their countries in the first place.

KERN COUNTY, CA — Today, Tony Cárdenas, former Congressman and longtime Chairman of CHC BOLD PAC, political arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, added his name to a growing list of current and former elected officials across the state supporting Randy Villegas in his campaign to unseat Republican Congressman David Valadao (CA-22). In his over 20 years of public service, Rep. Cárdenas fought for California working families and Latinos across the country. Growing up in a working-class immigrant family, Randy worked hard to help his parents make ends meet. Randy’s family relied on the crucial federal programs like WIC and Medicaid that are now in danger of being cut. Randy worked his way out of poverty through education and has dedicated his life to public service. As a local and school board trustee Randy has delivered for working families by standing up for the best interests of our children. As the only Latino and only Democrat on the school board, Randy has worked across the aisle to get things done. Now, Randy is running for Congress to stand up for other hard-working families who he sees falling through the cracks on David Valadao’s watch.
