KERN COUNTY, CA — Today, 15 California elected officials and 10 community leaders are announcing their support for Randy Villegas for Congress in California's 22nd Congressional District.
Just over one week ago, Villegas launched his grassroots campaign for U.S. Congress in California’s 22nd Congressional District.
CA-22 is anchored in Kern County, where Villegas was raised and attended local public schools. Today, he works as a community college professor in Tulare and Kings counties, the other two counties that comprise the district. If elected, Villegas would become the youngest member of California’s congressional delegation.
The list of endorsers for Villegas includes: President of the Bakersfield School Board of Education Chris Cruz-Boone, Delano City Councilman Bryan Osorio, Former Mayor of Arvin Jose Gurrola, Bakersfield School Board of Education President Anthony Fuentes, Bakersfield School Board of Education Area 5 Trustee Brooke Malley Ault, Kern Voter Engagement Project Leader Yvette Flores, Bakersfield business leader and combat veteran Chad Garcia, Kern County Advocate Megan Russell, Lindsay City Councilman Joe Soria, Tulare County School Board of Education Area 2 Trustee Reuben Macareno, Tulare Local Healthcare District Board Area 3 Director Jevon Price, Kings County Democratic Central Committee Chair CathyJorgensen, College of the Sequoias District Trustee Ward 4 Connie Diaz, CA Women’s Rights Leader Socorro Santillan, Delano Labor Leader Guadalupe Martinez, Tulare Democratic Central Committee Chair Josh Evans, Tulare City Councilman Jose Sigala, and Tulare Labor Leader Niessen Foster.
Villegas’s campaign launch defined him as the clear Democratic frontrunner in CA-22, a fact that today’s endorsements further emphasize.
“Randy has been a leader for our community at every level, and he knows how to bring people together. I have seen him fight for our children on the school board. I know that he will continue to fight for working families and our values in Congress.” said Ruben Macarenno, Tulare County School Board of Education Area 2 Trustee.
“I would be proud to have Dr. Randy Villegas represent Bakersfield in Congress. Like me, he was brought up in a hard working family and has made a life for himself. He isn't putting on a show for voters. Randy is a leader who can relate to the people who call California’s 22nd Congressional District home,” said Chad Garcia, Bakersfield business leader and combat veteran.
"I had the privilege of working hand-in-hand with Randy Villegas to serve our community. Randy is committed to protecting our families, and he is dedicated to taking on the tough fights for California’s Central Valley,” said Joe Soria, Lindsay City Councilman.
“While Valadao supports a budget that threatens my community’s healthcare, Randy has been showing up, standing with people in my community to fight back. He knows how much is at stake and is fighting to make sure thousands in CD 22 don’t lose the care they count on.” said Megan Russell, Kern County Advocate.
“I am proud to endorse Randy Villegas in his bid to unseat David Valadao. Under Valadao’s leadership, I've seen firsthand how delays in healthcare funding and attacks on access have devastated lives here in the Central Valley. Randy Villegas isn’t waiting to fix it, and neither should you,” said Jevon Price, Tulare Local Healthcare District Board Area 3 Director.
“I am happy to endorse Dr. Randy Villegas in his bid to represent CA-22 in Congress. His story is one that embodies all that is right and good in America. I know that he will be a representative that truly serves all CA-22 residents,” said Cathy Jorgensen, Kings County Democratic Central Committee Chair.
“Randy Villegas is the real deal. He understands the needs of the labor force that powers our community, and he will be a powerful voice for us in Congress. It is about time that we received true representation, and I am confident that Randy is the best man for the job,” said Niessen Foster, Tulare Labor Leader.
“I support Randy Villegas for Congress, because he is a homegrown leader with heart, vision, and lived experiences. He’s shown us that he will truly fight for working families in the Central Valley,” said Bryan Osorio, Delano City Councilman.
“I could not be more proud to endorse Randy Villegas for Congress. We are ready for change. Too many of our children have fallen through the cracks in school, and we deserve a fellow teacher like Randy, who will fight to get working families what we deserve,” said Chris Cruz-Boone, President of the Bakersfield School Board of Education.
“Randy Villegas is the best candidate for this job because of his dedication to education and community. He is a genuine advocate for our friends and neighbors here in the Central Valley. I’m proud to endorse Randy Villegas for Congress,” said Anthony Fuentes Bakersfield School Board of Education Area 2 Trustee.
Randy Villegas is a Central Valley native, son of immigrants, and a local educator. Growing up in a working-class immigrant family, Randy worked hard to help his parents make ends meet. Randy’s family relied on the crucial federal programs like, WIC, & Medicaid that are now in danger of being cut. Randy worked his way out of poverty through education and has dedicated his life to public service. As a local community college professor and school board member, Randy has delivered for working families by standing up for the best interest of our children. As the only Latino and only Democrat on the school board, Randy has worked across the aisle to get things done.
Now, Randy is running for Congress to stand up for other hard-working families who he sees falling through the cracks on David Valadao’s watch. Find out more at: www.villegasforcongress.com.
