Randy Villegas Statement on ACA House Vote

Kern County, CA – Today, Randy Villegas, candidate for California’s 22nd Congressional District issued the following statement after the House voted to restore ACA tax credits for three years:

“While this measure passed with bipartisan support in the House today, it is something that should have happened from the beginning,” said Randy Villegas. “Central Valley families are already facing crippling health care costs and being forced out of their coverage due to David Valadao and extremist Republicans drastically gutting our health care. Valadao has refused to do what was right for our communities. If he was really serious about keeping our health care affordable, he would have fought to lower costs before these critical tax credits expired. Instead, he’s undermined the ACA, gutted Medicaid, and put his corporate sponsors ahead of us at every turn.

Politicians in DC have two choices: finally make healthcare affordable for hard-working families across the country, or continue to let Big Pharma and insurance corporations rip us off. David Valadao has spent over a decade turning his back on us, and the people of the Central Valley know it's time to kick him out for good. The Valley deserves better.”

Randy Villegas is a Central Valley native, auto repair shop owner, and a local educator. Growing up in a working-class immigrant family, Randy worked hard to help his parents make ends meet. Randy’s family relied on the crucial federal programs like WIC and Medicaid that are now in danger of being cut. Randy worked his way out of poverty through education and has dedicated his life to public service. As a local community college professor and school board member, Randy has delivered for working families by standing up for the best interest of our children. As the only Latino and only Democrat on the school board, Randy has worked across the aisle to get things done. Now, Randy is running for Congress to stand up for other hard-working families who he sees falling through the cracks on David Valadao’s watch.
